Melone & Bernardi Awards 2026 – submission deadline May 12th

It is with great pleasure that we announce the opening of the 2026 calls for awards to projects by young researchers of the Italian Hydrological Society.

Both awards are intended for collaborative research projects proposed by our young members in good standing for 2026. However, the focus of the projects sought is different, as explained below and in the official calls. Applicants are asked to indicate in the submission email (which should not be sent from a certified PEC email address) whether they intend to apply for one, the other, or both selection procedures, and to attach the corresponding application forms for the submitted project. The same research group may also submit two different projects to the two calls.

The Florisa Melone Award, now in its ninth edition and supported by Dr. Melone’s family, is a tribute to her memory and to the research carried out during her outstanding scientific career. The award is aimed at projects whose goal is the advancement of knowledge in the following research areas:
i) qualitative and quantitative analysis of the components of the hydrological cycle
ii) risk management related to extreme hydro-meteorological events
iii) sustainable planning and management of water resources in the context of global change

The Paolo Bernardi Award, established in 2024 and supported by CAE SpA, is a tribute to the memory and distinguished career of Eng. Bernardi in the field of operational hydrology and hydrological instrumentation. The award is intended for applied research projects that advance operational practice in the field of non-structural solutions based on real-time monitoring for the management and mitigation of risks associated with extreme hydro-meteorological events and for the management of water resources.

The files containing the texts of both calls, along with the respective application forms, are attached. The submission deadline is May 12, 2026, and we kindly ask you to share this information with your young colleagues.

Hydrology Days 2026 – call for abstract – deadline 20 April 2026

As previously announced, the 2026 Hydrology Days will take place at the University of Florence from the early afternoon of Monday, June 29, until lunchtime on Wednesday, July 1. The event is titled: “Water between risk and resource: understanding, forecasting and adaptation – Hydrology Days sixty years after the Florence flood.”

Oral presentations and posters (with a “flash” presentation) are planned. These will be scheduled during the event directly by the Scientific Committee, based on content and keywords, without prior division into thematic sessions. Contributions presenting innovative research and applications aimed at the qualitative and quantitative description of the components of the hydrological cycle are welcome. In particular, relevant topics include ground-based and satellite hydrometeorological monitoring, forecasting and mitigation of the effects of extreme hydro-meteorological events, and the planning and sustainable management of water resources, also in the context of global change.

Participants wishing to contribute are invited to submit, by April 20, 2026, an abstract in Italian or English (maximum 2 pages, maximum 1 figure and/or table), using the attached Word template, indicating a preference for oral or poster presentation, via the following Google Form: https://forms.gle/24ESGHt4CMiWosrT8

SAVE THE DATE! – 12th IDRAIM Course – Turin, 8–12 June 2026

We are pleased to inform you that ISPRA, with the support of ARPA Piemonte, is organizing the 12th national training course on the assessment of the Morphological Quality Index of watercourses (MQI), as part of the IDRAIM system.

The course will be based in Turin, at the headquarters of ARPA Piemonte, during the week of 8–12 June 2026, and will alternate classroom lectures with field visits to selected river sections for practical application of the method.

The course will take place if the minimum number of 20 participants is reached. A registration fee is required to cover direct expenses and coffee breaks. Travel expenses (transportation, meals, and accommodation) will be borne by the participants.

Registration must be completed by 20 April 2026. It requires online registration via the LINK by clicking on “Register” and subsequently sending your curriculum vitae to idromorfologia@isprambiente.it.

Further details — including required competencies for participation, lecturers, and registration fees — are available on the same webpage.

IDRA2026 – Abstract submission deadline: 15 February 2026

Between 9 and 11 September 2026, the XL National Conference on Hydraulics and Hydraulic Engineering (IDRA2026) will take place in Naples, at the Conference Centre of the Maritime Station. This prestigious event, now in its fortieth edition, is organized biennially by Italian universities under the auspices of the Italian Hydraulics Group (GII). It welcomes both scholars from Italy and abroad working in the fields of Hydraulics, Hydrology, and Hydraulic Engineering, as well as professionals from public bodies and companies interested in these topics.

The major novelty of this year’s edition is the APP, which allows users to easily access all information related to the conference from the outset. This tool will be essential during the conference to receive timely updates on the scientific programme, rooms, and events.

We invite you to download the APP now (by scanning the QR code shown below, also available on the conference website) and to register by entering your details. Once registered on the APP, you will be able to receive notifications with all updates and announcements.

The deadline for abstract submission has been postponed to 15 February 2026. The guidelines, template, and abstract submission form are available both on the conference website (https://www.convegno-idra.it/) and on the APP.

Please note that GII members (who are up to date with payment of the 2026 membership fee) will be able to register for the IDRA2026 Conference at a reduced fee. The deadline for reduced-fee registration is set for 31 March 2026. We encourage everyone to access the management system to renew their GII membership (and, if necessary, update personal information) by visiting https://gii-idraulica.it/come-aderire-gii/ and clicking on “ACCESS THE RESERVED AREA.”

Hydrology Days 2026 – Save the date

As announced in Bari, we remind you tosave the date for our next Hydrology Days 2026, which will be held under the guidance of our colleagues from the University of Florence, from 29 June to 1 July 2026.

40 YEARS OF HYDROLOGY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF BASILICATA

On 23 September 2025, at the Aula Magna on Via Nazario Sauro in Potenza, Prof. Mauro Fiorentino, Honorary Member of the Italian Hydrological Society, will deliver a Lectio Magistralis on the occasion of his retirement, as part of a day dedicated to hydrology, featuring a series of highly interesting presentations. The programme of the day is attached.

Hydrology Days 2024 (Udine, June 24-26)

The Hydrology Days (“Giornate dell’Idrologia”) 2024 are entitled “Water management in conditions of climatic emergencies: the response of the hydrological community to the territory” (“La gestione delle acque in condizioni di emergenze climatiche: la risposta della comunità idrologica al territorio”) and, as announced, will take place in Udine, at Palazzo Garzolini di Toppo Wassermann, via Gemona 92, from Monday afternoon of June 24 to Wednesday lunchtime of June 26.

CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE HYDROLOGY DAYS

Contributions are expected in the form of oral presentations and posters (with flash presentation), which will be scheduled during the Days directly by the Scientific Committee, based on the contents and keywords, without a prior division into topic sessions.

We invite contributions that present innovative researches and applications aimed at the qualitative and quantitative description of the components of the hydrological cycle; specifically, ground-based and satellite hydro-meteorological monitoring, the prediction and mitigation of the effects of exceptional hydro-meteorological events are relevant topics; the planning and sustainable management of water resources, even in a context of global changes.

Participants who wish to contribute are invited to send an abstract in Italian or English (max 500 words, max 1 figure, max 2 pages) by April 10, 24, 2024 through the following Google form (copy and paste the link in case of error):
